What are the different types of Credentials?
Elementary and secondary education teaching credentials
Any California teaching credential involves a dual-level process starting from the preliminary teaching credential followed by the attainment of a clear credential. Teacher candidates are to obtain a preliminary multiple subject credential from an accredited university before they can clear their credential by participating in an induction program when they are hired by a school.
The multiple-subject credential program is to train educators who want to teach all subjects in a self-contained classroom. This type of teacher education program prepares candidates to be well-rounded and versatile educators. With a multiple-subject teaching credential, you can teach for elementary education from grades K-6, or specialize in multiple subject programs at the secondary level. For teachers who prefer the high school or middle school setting, the ideal credential to pursue is the single-subject credential.
Special education credentials
An education specialist can work in diverse settings such as in medical facilities, private residences, and other educational environments. They consult and work together with other teachers and support staff. Disabilities vary depending on their severity. It can range from mild to moderate, and from moderate to severe. Special Education teachers must have a credential falling within these specific disability categories.
