Internship Program Admissions

Briefly describe in narrative form important information to assist potential applicants in assessing their likely fit with your program. This description must be consistent with the program’s policies on intern selection and practicum and academic preparation requirements:

The California Psychology Internship Consortium (CPIC) is accredited by the American Psychological Association, and represents a partnership between Alvarado Parkway Institute Behavioral Health System, Aurora Behavioral Healthcare/San Diego, Department of State Hospitals-Coalinga, Porterville Developmental Center, San Quentin Rehabilitation Center, State Center Community College District-Fresno, W. Gary Cannon Psychological Service Center, and University of California, Merced, which work cooperatively to provide quality doctoral training opportunities in Health Psychology.  Through the Consortium, interns have opportunities to engage in training experiences at one of the Consortium partner sites, and to serve a broad range of client populations.  In turn, the Consortium provides a comprehensive psychology internship program to communities that previously lacked the infrastructure to support internship opportunities.

The California Psychology Internship Consortium (CPIC) adheres to a Practitioner-Scholar model of doctoral internship training.  Each internship is full-time in duration and includes a minimum of 1,500 hours of training over a 12-month period. All CPIC member agencies offer intensive training programs; utilize evidenced-based assessment and intervention protocols; and provide interns with a broad range of experiences. Prospective interns must have completed their required coursework, supervised practicum, and be in good standing with their psychology training program.  Additionally, prospective candidates must have: 100 hours of assessment experience, 600 hours of practicum experience in settings appropriate for a doctoral level psychology intern and acquired practicum experience at two independent sites.

Does the program require that applicants have received a minimum number of hours of the following at time of application? If Yes, indicate how many:

Total Direct Contact Intervention HoursNYAmount: 600
Total Direct Contact Assessment HoursNYAmount: 100

Describe any other required minimum criteria used to screen applicants:

Applicants must have completed practicum hours at a minimum of two different sites. Prospective candidates from both PhD and PsyD programs are encouraged to apply. CPIC is dedicated to providing equal educational opportunities to persons of any age, ethnic background, gender, religion, physical ability, sexual orientation and/or gender identification.

Each applicant is required to submit a completed APPI application, including two letters of recommendation on the standard form. The deadline for application submission is November 15th at 11:59 p.m. Our interview notification date is December 20th. Additional information regarding the application process can be found at https://www.appic.org.

PROSPECTIVE INTERNS WHO WISH TO APPLY TO MORE THAN ONE SITE WITHIN THE CONSORTIUM SHOULD INCLUDE SEPARATE COVER LETTERS ADDRESSED TO THE SPECIFIC SITES TO WHICH THEY SEEK APPLICATION, SCANNED INTO A SINGLE DOCUMENT (i.e., ONLY SUBMIT ONE APPLICATION). Please note that placements at some sites are contingent upon successful completion of a health examination, drug test, and or security background clearance.
