Q: What inspired you to go into the clinical psychology field?

A: Clinical psychology is the core of the field of psychology and it's one of the only subjects that is accredited by the American Psychological Association. Alliant has five programs in clinical psychology across the state of California, and it licenses half of all psychologists currently practicing in the state. It's a wonderful, wonderful field, and I'm very interested in it because I have a lot of experience in other fields, in other subjects, and in other majors, and almost all of them talk about mental health. It's invigorating to see how everyone is currently interested in this field. I joined clinical psychology to get to the core of psychology, and it's been a great experience.

Q: What have you most enjoyed about the program so far?

A: I love the close mentorship. I love how robust the faculty is. They're really connected across the state of California. They're practicing very, very important work in the field of psychology, and they're doing a lot of impactful work. It's invigorating to learn about what the faculty is doing because it helps to expand my horizons in that way.

Q: Is there anything special or unique that Alliant does that is helping you? 

A: I love the diversity of the Alliant campuses. They're making sure that mental health belongs to everybody, and that clinical psychology can reach underserved communities. It's very impactful, and the research that we're currently conducting across the state is very relevant to the populations in California and that is at the forefront of clinical research.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who is considering going into the clinical psychology field? 

A: When coming into clinical psychology, you must be very serious about practicing this clinical medium because what we do is very impactful to the communities that we serve. To not take that seriously is to be reckless. Each of us must come into this field with a very solid sense of self and a very competent professional background so that we can serve our communities better.
