Winter 2013 Updates
Dr. Jeffrey Leichter (CSPP-LA, Clinical PhD, ’87) shares, “In 2010 I was appointed by then governor Tim Pawlenty to the Minnesota Board of Psychology. In 2013 I was appointed Chair of the Board and currently, in conjunction with the Executive Director, oversee the licensure and practice of 4000 psychologists in Minnesota.”
Fall 2013 Updates
Dr. Rahimeh Andalibian (CSPP-LA, Clinical PsyD ’99) was recently profiled on our website. She is an author, producer, and licensed clinical psychologist. Here is a short excerpt from her profile: ”My education at CSPP was tremendous. The academic work was significant, however, the personal relationships I built with my mentors, such as Dr. Caffaro and Dr. Regas (to name just a few), have been life changing. The personal development that I experienced during those years at CSPP not only changed who I was, but also affected how I related with my family, and, ultimately, how I impacted the world,” said Dr. Andalibian. Dr. Sandra Mashihi (CSPP-LA Org Psych PhD, ’07) has a new book on coaching entitledClueless! Coaching People Who Just Don’t Get It. Read more.
Dr. Angel Johnson and Dr. Cyrell Williams (both CSPP-LA Org Psych PhD, ’08) presented in our San Francisco campus Organizational Psychology Colloquium Series in October. Their topic was “What’s After CSPP? Professional Lives in Organizational Psychology.”
Dr. Christina Hibbert (CSPP-LA, Clinical PsyD, ’03) recently released her new book.
Dr. Stephen Phillips (CSPP-LA, Clinical PsyD ’99) received the 2013 award for Distinguished Service to the Los Angeles County Psychological Association.

Events
Save the Date! Saturday, March 15. We are planning a special event for alumni in honor of Women’s History Month. Our working title is: “Honoring Diverse Feminist Perspectives: Journeying Together to Build Relationships and Enhance Professional Practice.”
More information will be sent in the near future, but for now, please save Saturday, March 15 from 9am – 2pm on your calendars. Included will be lunch, networking opportunities and very low cost continuing education (3 CEUs) for CSPP alumni. Special thanks to CSPP-LA alumnae from our class of 1980+ Dr. Susann Bauman and Dr. Clara Farah, who have inspired this event!
Also, please save Thursday, March 20 on your calendar for our Los Angeles Dean’s Reception in the late afternoon/early evening with CSPP Dean Dr. Morgan Sammons.

Spring 2013 Alumni Updates
Dr. Cheryl Arutt (CSPP-LA, Clinical PsyD ’97) is currently featured in an alumni spotlight on our website. Dr. Arutt regularly appears on CNN and HLN, and this Spring gave a TEDTalk on “That Good Feeling of Control: Self-Regulation, Trauma and Creativity.”
Dr. Caren Caty (CSPP-LA, Clinical PhD ’03) was appointed by the American Humane Association as a Senior Fellow in its Humane Research and Policy(TM) division. She was alsorecently quoted in a Kansas City Star newspaper article entitled, “Reporting abuse: A call can save a child’s life.”
Dr. Anne Coscarelli (CSPP-LA, Clinical PhD ’80), Director of the Simms/Mann–UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology was awarded the Outstanding Clinical Care Award for 2013 by theAmerican Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS) in February.
Dr. Kimia Ghassemy (CSPP-LA, Clinical PsyD, 08) shares, “Since graduating, my colleagueDr. Niaz Khani (CSPP-LA, Clinical PsyD ’08) and I have opened a non profit organization. Our organization is called CARE Multicultural Healing and is focused on multicultural mental health. The organization encompasses counseling, assessment, research and education and focuses on multiculturalism and mental health. Our ultimate goal is to open a counseling center for underserved youth throughout LA.”
Dr. Cesar Gonzalez (CSPP-LA, Clinical PhD ’08) was recently featured in an alumni spotlight on our website. He recently accepted an Assistant Professor position in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School where he continues his focus on working with multicultural communities through research projects, writing research manuscripts and grants.
Dr. Jeremy Lurey (CSPP-LA, Organizational Psychology PhD ’98) was recently featured in an alumni spotlight on our website. He is CEO and Chief Architect of Plus Delta Consulting, LLC. Prior to establishing Plus Delta in 2002, he worked at both Pricewaterhouse Coopers and Andersen Consulting.
Dr. Sandra Mashihi (CSPP-LA, Organizational Psychology PhD ’04), is second author of the article, “Evidence Based Answers to 15 Questions about Leveraging 360-Degree Feedback,” winner of the 2012 Elliot Jacques Best Paper of the Year Award for Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research. Dr. Mashihi also co-taught the fall 2012 course in executive coaching at CSPP-LA with Dr. Ken Nowack of Envisia Learning.
Dr. Farnaz Namin-Hedayati (CSPP-LA, I/O Psychology PhD ’07) recently received the ”Women Who Mean Business Award.”
Dr. Ditta Oliker (CSPP-LA, Clinical PhD ’79) has written a new book entitled ”The Light Side of the Moon: Reclaiming Your Lost Potential”
Dr. Marc Shatz (CSPP-LA, Clinical PhD ’73) gave a talk on “The Secrets of Doing Psychodynamic Psychotherapy” for the interns at the Maple Counseling Center in Beverly Hills earlier this month. In March, Dr. Shatz did his yearly clinical demonstration for the interns of the Southern California Counseling Center. Dr. Shatz will also be teaching a class on Object Relations at CSPP-LA this Fall.
In Memoriam – Dr. Hedda Bolgar (CSPP-LA Founding Faculty). Dr. Bolgar passed away on May 14, 2013 at the age of 103. Our deepest condolences to her family, friends and former colleagues & students.
