Forensic Studies Students & Faculty to Present at American Psychology-Law Conference
Jacksonville, FL: Avetis Topchyan, a 5th year graduate student in the Los Angeles Psy.D. program in Forensic Psychology, will present research findings with faculty Robert A. Leark, Ph.D. and Sherry Skidmore, Ph.D. at the 2008 American Psychology-Law Society Conference in Jacksonville, Florida on March eighth. The American Psychology-Law Society, Division 41 of the American Psychological Association, is an interdisciplinary organization devoted to scholarship, practice, and public service in psychology and law.
Their research supports a new instrument for police psychologists to assist with determining possible liability in police officer candidates. Avetis' research focuses on the validity of the tests and the test takers. He examines the way police officer candidates approach and take the tests.
"This test and its related research was made for police psychologists and police agencies to make better recommendations on hiring decisions, which we believe will positively impact community safety", Avetis comments. "Presenting at this conference also provides a great opportunity for me to meet and work with professionals in the field", he says.
This is Avetis Topchyan's second time presenting research at a major conference.

* Summary: This study was designed to evaluate the M-PULSE validity scales. Police candidates (5821) had been administered the M-PULSE, and the MMPI-2. The two validity measures (IM&TA) were correlated to validity measures on the MMPI-2 scales. The analyses yielded correlations between the IM and MMPI-2 L scale (.60) and K scales (.41).
