SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- November 19, 2012-- Alliant International University received the first annual Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. As a HEED award winner, Alliant joins a select group of U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.

"Success as a university and as a training ground for tomorrow's professionals depends critically on our ability to sustain a supportive and inclusive environment within our own institution,” said Alliant International University President Geoffrey Cox.  “At Alliant, I’m proud to say, students from diverse backgrounds are welcomed, affirmed, and therefore, able to thrive.”

INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine selected Alliant based on its exemplary diversity and inclusion initiatives covering all aspects of diversity, including gender, race, ethnicity, veterans, people with disabilities and members of the LGBT community.

The HEED award is the third distinction Alliant received in the past year honoring its outstanding record on diversity. Last fall, Alliant was one of eight universities chosen to participate in the American Council on Education’s “At Home In the World" project, designed to help universities blend and integrate multicultural and international competency training into their curriculum. This past summer, Alliant was recognized for the fifth consecutive year as a top producer of graduate degrees among minorities, as published in Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine.
