Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential at Alliant

Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential

BUILD A TEACHING CAREER AND SHAPE YOUNG MINDS

The Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential program at the Hufstedler School of Education is an excellent fit for those wishing to help shape future generations as elementary school educators in general education.

Our program prepares you to become a teacher-of-record in any self-contained K-12 classroom within California, offering instruction and leadership in multiple subjects as you provide a well-rounded and comprehensive education. Self-contained classrooms are those typically found in elementary and pre-K schools.

Embedded within the credential program are the state-required authorization in Cross-cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD) and compliance with the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act.

Successful completion of the program results in a preliminary teaching credential recommendation to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) that must be elevated to a Clear Credential within five years.

EARN YOUR CREDENTIAL AND MASTER’S SIMULTANEOUSLY AS A STUDENT OR INTERN TEACHER - THE CHOICE IS YOURS

We offer two effective and distinct pathways towards earning your combined Master's in Teaching and Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential:

  • Student Teaching (with online M.A.E. in Teaching)
The Student Teaching Option provides the ideal environment to study pedagogy and apply it in the classroom under the guidance of a Master Teacher before you begin your career as a full-time teacher-of-record. Your experience will include online coursework, on-ground seminars, classroom observations and mentoring. You will also complete an 18-week student teaching assignment assisting a classroom’s Master Teacher at an Alliant-designated site. Learn more here.
  • Intern Teaching - Standard (with online M.A.E. in Teaching)
The Intern Teaching Option is ideal for those wishing to pursue their teaching certification while earning an income as a paid teacher-of-record at an Alliant-approved site. You will also engage in online coursework, on-ground seminars and mentoring. Learn more here.

INTERESTED IN EARNING AN ACCELERATED TEACHING CREDENTIAL?

The Early Completion Option (ECO) is an abbreviated version of the Intern Teaching path. It is ideally designed for experienced classroom teachers who have not yet earned a preliminary teaching credential. ECO students may take advantage of their professional experience to have 12 units of coursework waived upon successful completion of the Teaching Foundations Exam accepted by the CCTC. The Master's in Teaching is optional for ECO students. Please read more about the Early Completion Option here.

Note: Available only for candidates pursuing a Single Subject Credential in Science, Math and English, or a Multiple Subject Credential.
