EARN YOUR AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS ADDED AUTHORIZATION (ASDA) FOR CALIFORNIA SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS

Alliant offers a convenient and affordable program through which to earn a recommendation for the Autism Spectrum Disorders Added Authorization as a special education instructor. This ASDA authorization program is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and satisfies all CCTC requirements.Two formats are available:

  • TRADITIONAL EVENING AND WEEKEND PROGRAM
    This program is 12 units and may be completed in one semester with on-site evening courses and once monthly Saturday seminars. This program is subject to Alliant's regular tuition rates.

  • ACCELERATED WORKSHOP WITH PORTFOLIO PROGRAM
    Open to experienced and credentialed California special education teachers, this accelerated 3-unit program allows you earn your ASDA authorization recommendation by completing a two-day, intensive workshop with an accompanying evidentiary portfolio. The portfolio demonstrates your professional experience and learning in the field. Please review portfolio requirements here.

    PROGRAM COST
    The accelerated workshop with portfolio program cost is $850. For ease of processing your payment and for issuing proof of payment upon request, please do not issue payment until you have received a billing notice from Alliant. Billing notices will be received within 10 days after your scheduled workshop date via email. Please note that payment is not required prior to your scheduled workshop date. However, payment in full is required for your portfolio to be evaluated and for your authorization recommendation to be issued to the CCTC.

    PORTFOLIO AND ASDA RECOMMENDATION TIMELINE DETAILS
    Portfolios are due within six weeks of attending your designated program date. Extensions may be granted as necessary. Once submitted your portfolio will be evaluated within two weeks. You will receive an email notification once the evaluation is completed. If satisfactory and provided that the $850 ASDA Authorization program tuition has been paid in full, a recommendation for your ASDA authorization will be reported to the CCTC within two business days of your portfolio evaluation being completed. You will receive two emails once that happens: one from Alliant's credentials analyst, and one directly from the CCTC with information on how to login and pay the CTC processing fee online.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS 
  • Minimum one year professional experience teaching students with autism 
  • Employment within a California K-12 school
  • All credential coursework completed (minimum GPA of 3.0 required) 
  • California Education Specialist Teaching Credential (preliminary or clear) in one of the following: 
    • Mild/Moderate Disabilities 
    • Deaf and Hard of Hearing 
    • Physical and Health Impairments 
    • Visual Impairments 

Note: This program is only for experienced credentialed special education teachers who lack the Autism Spectrum Disorders Authorization. Current teacher credentialing programs in special education in the state of California now include the authorization built into the credential.
