Marital and Family Therapy MA Program
TOP TRAINING FOR A FAST-GROWING FIELD
The COAMFTE-accredited Master of Arts (MA) in Marital and Family Therapy (MFT), offered at the Irvine, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, and San Francisco campuses of Alliant International University, is designed to meet the growing demand for professional marriage and family therapists.

The program commits to producing compassionate practitioners with superior theoretical knowledge and the real-world training to apply it for the improvement of lives, especially in families from multiple cultures and countries. Master’s graduates can begin practicing immediately after licensure or transfer all credits to our Marital and Family Therapy PsyD program.
Students may attend either full-time or part-time to complete the program. The minimum program completion time for full-time students is 2 years. The minimum completion time for part-time students is 3 years. The maximum completion time for all students is 5 years.
CUTTING-EDGE SPECIALTIES AND A STUDY-ABROAD OPTION
Students in the MFT master’s program have the option to specialize in one of three fields of growing national and international interest and significance:
- Chemical Dependency (San Diego)
- Gerontology (San Diego)
- Infant-Preschooler Mental Health (Fresno, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco and Online)
- Latin American Family Therapy (Irvine, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego)
- LGBT Humans Services And Mental Health (Online)
In addition, you can opt to study abroad in Mexico for up to the first three semesters of the program.
LICENSURE
With a master’s degree in MFT, you are eligible for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California upon completion of post-degree intern hours and passing the licensure exam.

The CFT master’s program is one of only seven accredited master’s programs in California.
The PsyD program is the only accredited MFT doctoral program in California and the
first accredited MFT PsyD program in the country.

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE, PART-TIME OPTION
We offer day and evening classes in San Diego and Irvine and evening classes in Los Angeles, Sacramento and San Francisco. Part-time attendance is permitted.
